You may feel pain from your arch or heel towards the center when you first stand up after a long period of sitting. This condition is also known as heel pain with associated plantar fasciitis. This condition is most common. It is caused by the pulling of the plantar facia from the heel bone. This is a common issue for children aged 8-12. We use the terms plantar fasciitis and heel spur interchangeably to describe heel-type pain. Many structures attach to the heels bone. The main structures of the heel bone include the plantar fascia (or the plantar muscles), and the two plantar bones. The arch becomes wider as we walk, run, or cycle. This puts stress on fascia and pulls away the heel bone. This is called a bone spur. It can take years for spurs to develop. It can be caused bone, fascia, or heel nerve pain. A heel spot might be revealed by Xrays. They can be very small or very large. Sometimes the size of the spur may not be related to the level or intensity of pain. Shoes that are too tight can make the pain worse. Fit is more important than price.
When shopping for shoes to replace old ones, it is crucial that your feet are measured at least once every year. Well cushioned shoes will provide good lateral support. Signs and symptoms for Plantar Fasciitis/Bone Spurs. The arch and heel can feel the pain. The pain can become more severe if you are unable to sit down. It will eventually get better over time. The plantar muscles and fascia pull away from heel bone. This can cause pain after taking your first steps in the morning, or after taking a rest. It is the nerve that runs along one side and causes pain. Plantar Fasciitis treatment, and Bone Spurs Heel Spurs could be caused inflammation at the site where the Plantar Fascia enters your heel bone. In 98% of cases, a conservative approach to the problem can be used. A physical exam is required for any traumas. Trigger point injections with mild steroids can be given to reduce heel pain. The treatment usually takes between one and three visits to the office for an evaluation and injections.
Dehydrated alcohol injections are an option to treat nerve discomfort. The arch must be supported by an OTC support prior to treatment. This can be wrapped with reusable wraps or coban. When treating long term conditions, orthotics made from custom materials are often the best. These orthotics can be made of flexible material and can be worn in both gym and formal shoes. Two options are available to treat heel pain that continues after treatment. One option is to use platelet rich Plasma (PRP) injections, the other is shockwave treatment. Surgery is not common today.
